THINGS WE LEARNED AT ACTFL 2015

We were busy at ACTFL 2015. Some things that we learned included that Portland did a three year study that found...immersion students did as well or better. That isn't news, but what the study did do is use lottery winners/losers as a sample and thus they overcame the selection bias (apples to oranges) criticism that is often used against immersion research. We learned that JNCL-NCLIS (a national organization that advocates for language policy) is advocating to have immigration reinterpret H1B visa policies so that schools and districts can start to sponsor teachers. Give them a shout out of thanks! Here is their website (I haven't learned to link on blogs yet) http://www.languagepolicy.org. We also caught up with our friends at CARLA! Their call for conference proposals is out. We will be sending that call out with our LCIS membership letter. The ACTFL immersion SIG is going to have more webinars. If you are a member of the SIG you should have access to their webinars.
